Erbil Gas Power Station / 1500 MW / Iraq
Project Overview:
Mass Holding Group signed a contract with the Ministry of Electricity in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to construct a combined-cycle power station aimed at supplying the region with a capacity of 1,500 MW. The project is implemented under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, with actual work on the Erbil site beginning in 2006, divided into three phases:
Phase 1: 500 MW
Phase 2: 250 MW
Phase 3: 500 MW, including two steam turbines.
Location:
The Erbil Gas Power Station is located in Bir Dawood village, approximately 22 kilometers south of Erbil city center.
Technological Features:
Gas Turbine Units: The plant uses Frame 9E gas turbines manufactured by GE (General Electric), USA. These turbines primarily operate on natural gas but can switch to liquid fuel if needed.
Steam Turbine Units: The steam turbines are of type C-7, also manufactured by GE (USA).
Auxiliary Equipment:
The remaining equipment is sourced from reliable European manufacturers:
CMI (Belgium).
ABB (Germany).
ENEXIO (Germany).
Combined Cycle System:
The plant employs a combined cycle system, where the high heat from gas turbine exhaust is repurposed to generate additional electricity using steam turbines. This system offers:
Reduced thermal emissions, improving the environmental impact.
Increased production by 50% without consuming additional fuel.
Impact and Performance Since its inception, the Erbil Gas Power Station has made a significant contribution to improving electricity supply in the Kurdistan Region, particularly during peak demand periods such as the summer. The station’s units have demonstrated high efficiency, providing reliable electricity year-round.
Operation and Maintenance:
The Erbil Gas Power Station adopts modern operational and maintenance techniques, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Commitment to Safety:
The station adheres to international health and safety standards, prioritizing the safety of workers and equipment. This commitment reflects the company's dedication to maintaining a safe working environment and protecting its assets.
