Suleimanya Gas Power Station / 1500 MW / Iraq

Project Overview:
Mass Holding Group signed a contract with the Ministry of Electricity in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to construct a combined-cycle power plant aimed at supplying the region with a capacity of 1,500 MW. The project is implemented under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, with actual work on the Sulaymaniyah site beginning in 2008, divided into four phases:
Phase 1: 500 MW
Phase 2: 250 MW
Phase 3: 250 MW
Phase 4: 500 MW

Location:
The Sulaymaniyah Gas Power Station is located in the Chamchamal area, approximately 60 kilometers west of Sulaymaniyah city center.

Technological Features:
Gas Turbine Units: The plant uses Frame 9E gas turbines manufactured by GE (General Electric), USA, which primarily operate on natural gas with the flexibility to use liquid fuel when needed.
Steam Turbine Units: The steam turbines are of type C-7, also manufactured by GE (USA).
Auxiliary Equipment: The remaining equipment is sourced from reliable European manufacturers:
CMI (Belgium)
ABB (Germany)
ENEXIO (Germany)
Gas System: Supplied by Rotring (Germany)
Control System: Provided by EMERSON (USA)

Combined Cycle System:
The plant employs a combined cycle system, where the high heat from gas turbine exhaust is reused to generate additional electricity through steam turbines. This system offers:
Reduced thermal emissions, contributing to environmental improvements.
50% increase in energy production without additional fuel consumption.

Impact and Performance:
Since its operation began in 2009, the Sulaymaniyah Gas Power Station has significantly improved the electricity supply in the Kurdistan Region, particularly during peak demand periods such as the summer. The station’s units have demonstrated high efficiency, ensuring reliable electricity production year-round.

Operation and Maintenance:
The Sulaymaniyah Gas Power Station adopts modern operational and maintenance methods, ensuring optimal performance and system reliability.

Commitment to Safety:

The station adheres to international health and safety standards, prioritizing the safety of workers and equipment. This commitment is a key aspect of the company’s policy to maintain a safe working environment.
