Duhok Gas Power Station / 1000 MW / Iraq

Project Overview:
In 2009, Mass Holding Group signed a contract with the Ministry of Electricity in the Kurdistan Region to construct the Duhok Gas Power Station in Duhok Governorate, located along the Duhok-Zakho Road, approximately 35 kilometers from the city center. The project, with a production capacity of 1,000 MW, was implemented under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model.
Station Configuration and Capacity:
The station comprises eight generating units, each equipped with Frame-9E turbines with a generation capacity of 125 MW per unit.
The turbines are designed to operate on both natural gas and diesel fuel.

Equipment Suppliers:
Turbines and generating units: Supplied by GE (General Electric), USA.
Main and auxiliary transformers: Supplied by ABB (Germany).
132 kV substation: Provided by ABB (Sweden).
The station is connected to the national grid via multiple transmission lines.
Future Development: The station is designed for potential conversion from a simple cycle to a combined cycle by adding two steam turbines with a capacity of 500 MW, increasing the total production capacity to 1,500 MW.

Operation Timeline:
The station began supplying electricity to the grid in March 2010, starting with four generating units.
Four additional units were added by mid-2013, achieving the full design capacity of 1,000 MW.

Impact and Contributions:
The station has played a critical role in supporting the national grid by supplying electricity with high reliability and availability.
As a modern plant designed to operate on natural gas, it significantly reduces emissions contributing to climate change. Additionally, the station has an effective waste management system.

Advanced Operations and Maintenance:
The station relies on modern management techniques and software systems for operation and maintenance, adhering to the highest global standards.

Commitment to Sustainability and Ethics:
The station management is firmly committed to its professional and ethical responsibilities, strictly adhering to legal and professional requirements. It applies modern systems for quality management, occupational safety, and environmental protection, ensuring sustainable and responsible operations.
